Karikó Katalin Nobel-díjas magyar-amerikai kutatóbiológus, az SZTE kutatóprofesszora, a szintetikus mRNS alapú vakcinák orvosi technológiájának kifejlesztését felfedezéseivel megalapozó biokémikus.
A folyamatosan bővülő gyűjtemény tartalmaz családi fotókat, személyes tárgyakat és dokumentumokat, illetve sajtófotókat, melyek méltó módon mutatják be a mára világszerte ismertté vált Karikó Katalin életútját, az őt ért kezdeti hatásokat, az alma matertől kapott indíttatásokat és kutatásainak első időszakát.

2024. júniusában több Nobel-díjas tudós is látogatást tett a szegedi egyetemen.
Karikó Katalin és Anne L’Huillier a EUGLOH (European University Alliance for Global Health), kilenc európai egyetem szövetségének csúcstalálkozója alkalmából érkezett a Szegedi Tudományegyetemre 2024. június 13-án. Előadásaikat követően a világhírű kutatónők egyetemi hallgatókkal is beszélgettek. A találkozó jelentős motivációt adott a fiataloknak. Másnap csatlakozott hozzájuk Krausz Ferenc. A három Nobel-díjas tudós az ELI ALPS lézeres kutatóintézetben találkozott.
